From one season to the next, we always see different variations of similar trends. Seeing something completely new and out of the box every season isn’t common, and designers this season are taking inspiration from previous seasons and giving accessory trends a little teak. We aren’t upset about it though. There are already a tremendous amount of gorgeous trends that are out there, and, if you ask us, we really wouldn’t mind having the opportunity to reuse and recycle some of our favorite pieces from seasons past.
With that being said, these are 5 of our favorite accessory trends to look out for this summer.
Dolce & Gabbana have taken the traditional espadrilles shoe one step further (see what we did there?) and other designers are following suit. Most notably though, the Dolce & Gabbana Summer 2015 collection puts a twist on the basque trend, holding Italian ceramics as inspiration. In the Renaissance, painting ceramics involved decorating with bright colors and cheerful patterns, and this year’s take on the espadrille (a.k.a the “shoe to have”) features prints in bright blue colors with delicate flowers all over.
2. Under The Sea
Similar to previous years, themed pieces are in. However, this season, zodiac signs are out and little creatures from under the sea are the current obsession. Midi rings, clutch clasps, bangles, ornate necklaces, and more, infused with a touch of sea life, were all visible in the recent runway collections. Yes – shellfish, starfish and coral have gotten on board and are dipped in gold and silver. Even the gorgeous models of Valentino’s Spring/Summer runway were rocking under the sea themed pieces (pictured above), exuding a fun summer vibe.
3. Military Inspired Pieces
Judging by recent editorials and runway shows, one of the top trends this year is “military.” The most beautiful thing about this trend though, in our opinion, is the accessories that pair with it. Anything olive, gold, ivory or bronzy go perfectly with army inspired clothing. Swimwear tops can be embellished with gold body chains or studs, earring made out of ivory are all that, and natural shades of makeup perfectly complement the style.
4. Natural Materials
Jewelry made out of natural materials can often be an acquired taste. Nonetheless, that doesn’t diminish the value and beauty of it. If we take a look at the Spring/Summer 2015 Marni collection, having once again proven their reputation as some of the best Italian craftsmen, we will see it is riddled with beautiful jewelry made of wood and beads from natural materials.
Silver and bright colored, leather and metal, and embellished with slogans and inspirational quotes such as “Make Fashion Not War,” bangles were a staple at Chanel SS15, as well as many other designer shows. What a treat and an absolute pleasure it must have been for Karl Lagerfeld, but how could it not be? – the show was an absolute success. Plus, we all know that bangles won’t go out of style for some time now, because who doesn’t like a fancy yet cheeky and playful piece that dances as you move around?
